Exploring Grand Rapid's Past Motor Coach Tour

Leave the driving to HSM and join us for an educational tour of Grand Rapids.


Registration includes motor coach transportation, guide services, admission fees, buffet lunch, taxes and gratuities. Non-member registration also includes one-year HSM membership.


Gordon Olson, Grand Rapids' city historian emeritus, will lead this fascinating tour into the Furniture City's past. Visiting sites as diverse as Heritage Hill and the West Side, not to mention local landmarks, attendees will gain a unique perspective on Michigan's second-largest city. Tour includes Heritage Hill, Grand Rapids West Side, Public Museum of Grand Rapids, Gerald R. Ford Museum, Averill Museum and a stop at the historic covered bridge in Ada.


The tour leaves from the Park-n-Ride lot within the parking lot of the Meijer Cascade store located at 5531 28th Street Court Southeast in Grand Rapids near I-96. Motor coach departs at 9:00 am and returns at approximately 4:15 pm.


The tour includes the following:

Stop and see the Ada Covered Bridge and hear historical commentary provided by Ada Historical Society staff. Take a moment to walk across the bridge and take a photograph.

Visit the Ada Historical Society's Averill Museum and enjoy a guided tour.

See Heritage Hill with guide Tom Logan, including opportunities to stop and walk in the neighborhood.

Stop for lunch at the Old Country Buffet in Wyoming.

Driving tour of the city's westside - "Where the other half lived: A Look at Grand Rapids West Side working class neighborhood."

Afternoon stop at the Public Museum of Grand Rapids for a guided tour emphasizing Anishnabek & Furniture City exhibits.

Enjoy a guided tour of the Gerald R. Ford Museum.
