Jack R. Westbrook, retired editor of the Michigan Oil & Gas News magazine and author/editor of five books on the Michigan oil and gas exploration and production industry scene, provides an hour of entertaining, sometimes humorous and always informative history of the Michigan oil and gas exploration and production industry past, present and future, with Powerpoint slide tracing the Michigan geological basin oil production from 1649 to today's rank as the 12th producer of natural gas and 17th largest producer of crude oil of the 34 United States that produce oil and gas in his presentation titled, "Michigan Oil and Gas - A Mitten Full of Petroleum Energy."
Westbrook has: written articles regarding the Michigan petroleum exploration and production industry in national trade and statewide general press publications; been speaker on Michigan petroleum history and , addressing every Michigan petroleum industry trade organization and numerous civic organizations in Michigan; spoken about the industry to conferences in Washington D.C., Boston MA, the Oil 150 Seminar conference of the Petroleum History Society at Titusville PA celebrating the discovery of oil there by Col. Drake in 1859 and the 75th Annual Membership Meeting of the Michigan Oil And Gas Association in October, 2009; was the only non-attorney ever to keynote the Michigan Bar Association Oil and Gas Workshop in 1990; and wrote, produced and narrated a five day per week radio minute-and-a-half radio update program called Michigan Oil and Gas News for WCEN in Mt. Pleasant and WTCM in Traverse City, Michigan.
