Speakers Gene & Barbara ScottGene Scott was director of a recent Michigan Humanities Council grant project which resulted in the award-winning book, Michigan Shadow Towns. He is a free-lance writer, editor, and photographer. Gene retired as a chief publicist for the City of Detroit and also has taught part-time in Detroit, Macomb, Redford, and Southfield schools. Michigan Shadow Towns is his fourth book on Michigan towns. His first was about eight southeast Michigan communities, done as part of his Master's Thesis in Sociology, Wayne State University. His book in 2001, about Detroit's Early Villages and Old Neighborhoods, was expanded into an exhibit at the Detroit Historical Museum. Gene Scott, a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Detroit in 1959. His wife and companion of more than 47 years, Barbara, is an active church, community and American Red Cross volunteer. They are members of historical societies in Detroit, Livonia, and Redford and the Historical Society of Michigan. |
