The Chippewa County Historical Society will celebrate the history of Sault Ste. Marie at its Sault History Festival on the East Lawn of the newly renovated City Hall located at 209 E. Portage Ave. Festivities will begin Friday evening with an old fashioned fish boil, music, and entertainment from 5-8 pm. Saturday activities continue from 10am until 8pm with music, entertainment, games, crafts, and children's activities. A period encampment will be open for viewing, and reenactors will be on hand to share the stories of various historical residents. Colonial and Native craft demonstration and crafts for sale. Admission to the Festival is free, tickets for Fish Boil $12 each and must be purchased in advance at the Chippewa County Historical Society Office Store, 115 Ashmun Street, Sault Ste. Marie. Friends of Fashion present "Lighthouses of the Keweenaw" at the Chassell Heritage Center, a delightful presentation featuring the history of some of the local lighthouses enhanced with photos and authentic vintage clothing. You will learn about the Corgan Family who manned lighthouses in the Keweenaw and in Ontonagon from the mid-19th to the early 20th century. Les Cheneaux Historical Association sponsors the Antique Wooden Boat Show & Festival of Arts. Some of the country's finest boats call the beautiful Les Cheneaux Islands home. Entries arrive each August from as far away as California and Florida. Vessels include dinghies, rowboats, canoes, large cruisers, steam and gas-powered launches, sailboats, utilities, runabouts, and racing boats.
