The Elk Rapids Historical Society is pleased to host a collection of 19 quilts for the summer season. Six local residents have generously agreed to allow the display of these treasured handicrafts. The oldest quilt is presumed to have been sewn by slaves in 1820, and the "newest" quilt made in 1990 from old fabrics. A Civil War era quilt is made entirely of silks and satins. The public is welcome to view these wonderful quilts during regular museum hours which are Tues, Thurs. Sat. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. An admission fee will not be required although donations will be gladly accepted. For more information please call (231) 264-5692.
